hi, i wanna buy a sammy 1000, but since i'm from europe i would have a region b, is that correct?, player... my question, i wanna watch only american blu ray discs so i have to make this machine codefree, so does the firmware determine the region code?? if so i could just download the us firmware from samsung.com and put it on my european player ?? would that do the trick ?? thanks....

I don't think so. That will not work. The region code is on the Blu-Ray drive. Not in the firmware. There are no players, firmwares oder patches out for that. That's one of the big plus points for HD DVD, there's no region code yet.


I'm in the same situation as you. Currently I'm HD DVD owner. But there are a few Blu-Ray titles out that I would like to buy. So I have to buy a US player. Will get a PS3 in some weeks.

it's not true - the code only is within the firmware. how do I know? I have a German BD-P1000 and it is possible to make it a US BD-P1000 by updating the player with the US firmware available at samsung.com. so the code cannot be on the blu-ray drive, but can only be in the firmware
