Since my Moto 6200 STB firmware version upped to 7.10 the HD picture doesn't look as sharp as it did before. The picture is wide, but I could swear that the Moto scaler is giving me EDTV. Its most noticeable on the network logo "bugs" that appear in the corner of the picture, where the CBS bug has what look like curved aliasing in it.

Anyone know of a way to get a test signal from the Moto or Comcast so this can be clearly seen? Since the difference between HD and ED feed isn't huge, it can be hard to tell without a test signal.

Thanks for any suggestions.

My signal path is:

Comcast -> Moto 6200 STB -> DVI @ 720p -> Sammy HLN467W

Not sure about the test signal, but you spent a nice chunk of change on the TV and it should have a better scaler. Why not let IT do the scaling? Set the STB to 1080 since the vast majority of the Comcast HD content is 1080 (The WB just added 6/1, 184 on my system) and switch it to 720 when watching ABC or ESPN.

Have you double checked your the 6200's output settings? Go into the user settings menu (power off then press "menu") and make sure YPbPr is either 720p or 1080i.

It might also be worthwhile to check component connections vs. DVI.

yes, try this because some firmware downloads have changed output settings for some members here.

PQ looks slightly worse when set to 1080. When set to either 720 or 1080 the circles in the abc, nbc, or cbs "bugs" all have visible aliasing.

When I feed the TV with DVI from my computer the image is clean so it appears to be something happening in the STB.

Yup, using 720p or 1080i gives the same kind of PQ problem.

When I switch to component the picture contrast changes but otherwise same artifacts. Then switching back to DVI I get the dreaded "No Signal" message and have to unplug-replug the DVI cable to get the STB to sync again.

Geez, it looks like I'm wanting to throw out this 6200 and go for an OTA receiver instead.

Here's a picture of the NBC "bug" from an HD broadcast. Note the aliasing in the tops and bottoms of the rings and curves. Aliasing wasn't visible on bugs I looked at (i.e. the PBS bug) with v7.07 but now all the bugs have this aliasing on them.

Unfortunately only NBC is broadcasting in HD right now. I'll try to get pictures of the other network bugs when they're in HD.

Any ideas? Does everyone see this, or only me?

Our apartment complex switched over to Comcast cable at the beginning of May, and I was in E3 for the week right after that. Since I've been back, I've been watching a lot, but haven't noticed anything personally. Actually, the installer didn't know HD boxes, so after I got back and was reading up here, I figured out that I could power down the box and hit menu to change the settings. So I finally set it to 16:9 and 1080i, with 480p override. I'm not sure when the 7.10 firmware update came, but I started having the same handshake problems around May 27-28 I think. For the HD channels, I haven't been able to see any difference in PQ. For other channels, I didn't start using my DVI cable for them because until I got my STB replaced (for main handshake problem), I didn't think to set override to 480p -- doing this meant I couldn't get scroll-bar or on-screen menus through S-Video. In 480i, regular channels looked really bad on my Samsung. But after playing around with things, I realized I could set it to 480p and the regular non-HD channels look great through DVI.

So I'm not really the best person to give testimony, but I haven't noticed any change in PQ, at least on INHD and INHD2 channels.

Does anyone know if this is even possible (or necessary) with a Sony KV-32HV600?
