Many people have said that Samsung has addressed a lot of the complaints about geometry with the SlimFits, and that the 3082 seems to have fewer geometry issues than the previous iterations of the model (3080, 3079, etc). But, the 3080 is no slouch, either.
I'd say that both TVs are going to be very similar in terms of PQ, and that I would base my decision on a) the space available to put the TV (the 3080 is narrower), b) the need for a second HDMI, c) how returnable either of them will be, just in case, and d) the price. In that order.
A lot of people have lamented the decision not to make a "bottom speaker" model of the 3082, and opt for th 3080 instead, if they can find it. Locally, I can still get the 3080, but the stores only keep the 3082 on the floor and in-store stock.
Beware the nay-sayers that might show up and tell you to get an Insignia because they hate Samsung. They're just an example of the "good experience will only get relayed to 3 people, a bad experience will get relayed to 30". I doubt that the unfixable geometry issues they will claim are a "plague" really affect more than about 2-3% of sets.
