EXTRA INFO POST

Font Screenshot Technology Software Parallel

1560 nits on 1%
1030 nits on 10%
600 nits on 25%
216 nits full screen.

Above test results in Filmmaker Mode on launch firmware.

Firmware (1211.2) has decreased peak brightness in Filmmaker Mode.
Use Movie Mode if you want brighter peak brightness

DO NOT update to firmware 1302 if you like Movie Mode. 1302 reduces brightness in Movie Mode. Make sure the S95B is disconnected from the internet.

Firmware 1403 broke VRR and was removed by Samsung. Firmware 1420 fixes this issue.

SETTINGS INFO

Logo dimming low - 15% in HDR and 30% in SDR
Logo dimming high - 20% in HDR and 50% in SDR
Logo dimming off - no dimming

+1/+2 Shadow Detail has been suggested to restore crushed blacks.
OR
Use Gamma 2.2 for SDR. BT.1886 is carry over from LCDs.

For wider HDR color in Rec2020, set Color Gamut to Manual->Rec.2020. Auto in HDR will be set to P3.

HDR brightness/contrast should also both be set to 50.
If you find HDR to be too dim, try using Contrast Enhancer Low or boosting the Gamma setting.

CALIBRATION SETTINGS

ADJUST ASBL
Credit @Nathan Pratt

Use at your own risk.

With an older Samsung remote or a programmed universal remote press: Mute > 1 > 1 > 9 > OK at an even pace. This should bring up the Hospitality Menu if you timed it right. Then press: 1 > 2 > 3 > 4 to get to the Service Menu. Entering the Service Menu with this method does not reset your video settings like some other methods.
Once in the Service Menu go to: Control > QD Option > Screen Saver Brightness
Press OK and then change the default of 7 to 0 with the Left Arrow.
Press Return twice to go back to the root of the Service Menu and then power cycle the TV.

This process should not reset your settings. If you update the firmware later you will need to re-apply this setting.

GAMING INFO

Contrast Enhancer and Peak Brightness can both be used in SDR Gaming to boost brightness.

Game HDR setting is HGIG. Only works 100% properly on supported games. This will overall make content appear slightly dim. If you prefer max brightness and let the TV do its own dynamic tone mapping (which is really good), turn Game HDR off.

144hz is unofficially supported and can be used on PC using a custom resolution created in Windows.

PS5 HDR Calibration: With Game HDR enabled (HGIG) Clicks from minimum setting -> 18 for 1500 nits (for peak specular highlights in small windows)

XBOX HDR Calibration: With Game HDR enabled (HGIG) Push left/right triggers & left/right bumpers all at the same time to bring up brightness levels in top right corner. Adjust until values reach 1500 nits (for peak specular highlights)

SCREEN MAINTENANCE
Credit @Nathan Pratt

To clean the screen, use a dry microfiber cloth. If that is not enough to get it clean, recommend using a screen cleaner spray that has some isopropyl alcohol in it.

WARNING: If the screen is exposed to water (distilled or not), it can temporarily change reflections in the Anti-Glare Coating from a dark maroon to a streaky, brighter blue that is quite distracting. It may even look like the Anti-Glare Coating has been rubbed off.

If this has happened, you can restore the Anti-Glare reflection tint back to normal by adding a small amount of isopropyl alcohol (70% or 91% concentrations seem to work just fine) to a microfiber cloth and gently wiping down the screen. Add a little more alcohol as needed due to evaporation to get the whole AG coating back to the original color.

BLOCK ADS IN OS

Here is a list of domains you can block on a DNS level (via Pi-Hole or other)

rtb.adgrx.com
tvx.adgrx.com
samsungads.com

Blocking these will remove ads in the Tizen OS. If you don't use the built in apps you can also choose to disable internet on the TV.

My order is in as well. I was going to wait for the A95K because I’m a Sony guy but early reports seem like Sony is really being cautious and throttling the panel a bit while Samsung is pushing it to the max. This won’t be my daily driver, that belongs to my Z9J. So I have no worry about life span or burn in because it will get minimal use as a bedroom TV.

Yes, I like Sony's processing, but I want all HDMI 2.1 ports and I could care less about Dolby Vision.

That is going to a kick ass bedroom TV! lol. The QD will be our main TV. The QN90B will be our secondary where the living room has more light. And the Z9D will be in our bedroom.

I am interested in the 65 as a bedroom tv too. I loved my 65 a90j into the bedroom. I got an 83” a90j for my main room because I couldn’t find an LED that I liked. I went through all of them. But I do like the samsung image and looking forward to seeing this in action.

Not sure if this is a troll post or serious. But no, this is QD-OLED developed in house by Samsung display.
Haven't really been following the tech. I just recall articles late last year about Samsung buying panels from LG. Wasn't sure if these were some variant of that.

The deal between Samsung and LG is not signed (yet). If that happens, it will be interesting to see what Samsung will do. I would expect they will announce at least one more OLED TV Series then (S90B/S80B for example). It is very unlikely that they will mix WOLED and QD-OLED panels within the S95B series due to different specs.

Essentially all modern technology builds on the work of others and sources parts from a variety of manufacturers, so that's an irrelevant distinction. At this point the only known source of QD-OLED panels is Samsung Display. Who they use as upstream suppliers might be interesting, but it doesn't change who manufactures the panels that Sony and Samsung are using in the A95K and S95B.

The QD OLEDs are suppost to be high-end and the LG OLED panel based ones budget TVs. So likely we will find them both in the OLED section of Samsung where there will be a distiction between high-end and budget OLED.
