PS3 is hooked up to my 1 year old Samsung 50" DLP. I have the "24Hz mode" on the PS3 set to automatic, and it is dumping Blu-ray signals as 24Hz.

Do I want this? If I turn that setting off, I'm getting it at 60Hz, according to the TV.

Logic dictates that 24Hz is best since that's what it's filmed at.

If your TV can only refresh at 60fps and not at an even multiple of 24 such as 48, 72,96 or 120 Hz then you gain nothing by sending it BR disk content at 24fps since the TV will just use 3:2 pulldown to convert it to 60fps.

If you are using the Info button on the TV remote then that states what it is receiving and not what it is displaying.

It is the Specs of the specific Sasmsung TV model you have that will state what it can display.

The PC chapter of your Samsung user's manual should contain exactly what it will receive and display over each of it's interface connections.
