I looked at the Samsung DLP the other day with a Direct TV 480i signal. Suffice to say to was horrible, words cannot describe it. So much so that I believe that there was something wrong with the signal. But I didn't verify the signal at the store. Where I live it's very difficult to find the Samsung on display, as no one seems to carry it.

It would be very helpful to me if some would post pictures (if you have them) of the Samsung in action. Ideally they would be of a 480i source. If you could indicate if there have been any tweaks, HTPC's etc, that would be great.

I know this is a tall order, I don't expect anyone to go out of their way.

Thanks in advance all.

I picked my 507 up from the freight company yesterday. Got about 12 hours on it now. I have ATT analog cable split 7 ways on cheap RG-6. Have not done any adjustments yet. The picture quality varies from not so good to not too bad depending on the channel. Watched basketball on ESPN and it looked very acceptable for SD. I am running a single CommScope RG-6 Quad shield from the service entrance to a Channel Vision 8 way amplified splitter and new quad RG-6 to all the sets this weekend. I will try to take a picture of the worst channel and the best tonight if no one has done so before that.

There have been issues with noise, but this set is very quiet. If you mute it and stick your ear right up to the set you can hear a faint fan sound. Set is not hardly warm after 12 hours. Will run it for 100 hours before doing anything to it. I see no rainbows and rest of the family don't either. This is a sweet set! RP82 DVD player looks awesome!

I am running my DVD player through component at 480i, and the picture is absolutely stunning on my 437.

I have to say, though, that my cable channels look less-then-perfect. Not any worse than they did with my PLK405W 40" LCD, though.

What some people don't seem to realize is that a display of this quality will reveal just about any flaws in the original source material. The better the source, the better the resulting image. The XBox at 480p looks amazing! I can't wait to try out Tony Hawk 4 (720p resolution) at Christmas (my wife won't let me open it yet ;)).

I'll second Bishamon's reply. We feed our 437 with a 480i signal from a *very* cheap DVD player. The PQ is stunning, especially after doing most of the tweaks (some are only available with a 480p input).

We've had the set for four weeks/200+ hours and it keeps getting better. Our only issue is making it fit in the living room.

The picture on my 437 varies greatly with the quality of the incoming signal. I have generic Comcast analog cable, connected directly via F cable to the antenna input on the 437. Some channels (HSN, Nick) look great. Others (ESPN, Cartoon Network) don't. Same as with my old 32" crt set, only blown up bigger. I've added the UM and SM tweaks, excluding color gain/offset adjustments. Overall, I'm satisfied with the 480i antenna PQ.

One more...

Here is a pic from A Knights Tale, this is after some SM tweaks. I'm happy with this today. Can't say about next week though.

For 480i, it seems my best pic is OTA digital. This would be followed by Dish's SD feed upconverted to 720p by the Model 6000 followed by Dish's S-video and lastly cable via Antenna input.

Thanks all for your answers. It's very likely that the signal I saw was the problem. Funny how gpflepsen "crap" looks awsome to me :). If you would of seen what I saw you would of fainted.

Thanks again. These will help.
