replaced the color wheel and lamp in 9/2008. Now the set won't turn on. You can hear it trying to start, but the whine just cycles before finally resorting to the three blinking lights. Before if I unplugged it, waited 30 secs, and then retried, it would turn on. Now, nothing. Any suggestions?

Hmmm, so does the lamp make that sound - kinda a whirring low to high? It will cycle for four or five times and then go to the blinking three lights. Had the lamp replaced in 08. Of course tried to go local and the company is out of business. Is it easy to order a lamp and replace it myself?

The whirring sound is the color wheel spinning up. This is normal although a loud vibration could mean it is failing but I would first check the lamp before I got carried away. Checking the lamp is easy and meant to be done by the owner. If it is blown it should be obvious but not always. Give it a look and let us know what you find. By the way try to avoid touching the glass part of the lamp once it is out as this could shorten its life even further if it in fact is still good. But it sounds like it is time for a new one. Just check it before you go any further.

These were the exact symptoms my Sammy 42" DLP experienced last year. I ordered a replacement bulb and power supply online. Based on what I'd read here and other websites, I replaced the bulb first and my Sammy has been like new ever since. If my power supply ever does go out, I have a replacement, but I'd start with the bulb. Mine was simple to replace.
