I have a 50inch DLP HLM507W. The HDchannels look great on this set. But I play alot of Xbox on this set as well. I have my xbox set to where it will allow 1080 780 and 420. But I cant get the colors to adjust just right. Especially in dark rooms, it appears almost pitch black on my screen and I cant see anything. You play on a regular TV screen and you see everything just fine. Ive played around with custom, and dynamic and all those settings. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if they have some good settings i might try with the brightness and such.

My xbox is hooked up with the HD pack for the xbox as well. Any help would be appreciated.

dragon, I have the same setup as you do and also have this problem. Its very noticeable on Knights of Old Republic when you are on Kasshyk. The only thing I can do to make it better is turn up the brightness on these dark scenes and turn it back down on the light scenes. Anyone else?

Atleast now I know its not just me experiencing this. I play alot of first person shooters, and I have to stay out of all dark buildings because I cant see anything. It seems like the entire xbox even the dashboard is darker...im gonna try to go in the dashboard right quick and see if theres anything there. I doubt there is.

Also if someone can just post the settings they have on their regular tv that would be nice.

Most games will have an in-game Gamma adjustment. I find that I need to crank it up a bit, rather than play with the TV.

I think the devs need to start calibrating thier development monitors.

for example, I play rainbow six 3 all the time on the xbox... and on my tv (even an analog), the picture is very dark. i think the scenes are suppose to be dark so that you use your night vision and stay in the shadows. i agree about turning up the contrast in your options menu. almost no one i know plays with it on the default... most crank it up higher, but again, i think that that is how it's suppose to look. think about it... if you're going to run and around and shoot people... why would you want to be in areas lit up like a christmas tree?,,, you wouldn't. learn to use your night vision

I've the same problem with many games on my PC. Thief and Splinter Cell come to mind. I just crank up the brightness. It is easier when I use the XBox on my HDTV because I can have separate settings for each input. I've usually got the XBox settings a lot brighter than what I have for movies.

Dragon, have you calibrated your set in any way? I usually find that bumping the in-game gamma just 1 or two notches is enough, even in the 'dark' games like Splinter Cell, without washing out the pic.

Try this thread. I also have the hlm series and was very disappointed with the dark areas. Follow these adjustments in the service menu and you will see everything in dark video games! I set my Y_offset to 50 and I can see EVERYTHING in a dark video game. The Y_offset is the key!

Please read carefully and record your default settings before you change anything. After I followed these instructions I was really impressed with the pq! It made a HUGE difference. I can almost guarantee that you will have no problem playing any dark video game, dark dvd movie and better pq.

Good Luck

George
