Hi all!

Anyone of you have a Samsung HL-S5086W dlp rear projection TV? Or a Samsung TV close to mine?

I need help on adjusting settings on this TV for best picture quality. I noticed when I am watching movies that are in dark scenes or night scenes, I can hardly see any details on the movie. When I try to adjust the brightness, it makes the TOP and BOTTOM black bars brighter and the picture seems to get fuzzy or grainy when the brightness is all the way up.

Right now, I have the picture setting to STANDARD and so far, it looks the best but still kind of dark. When people are wearing black clothings, it hard to see what they are wearing in details. You just see a SOLID black shirt. Now, could it be that it was film that way originally? Especially during the night scenes, man, you can see anything but the actors faces and the dark clothes just blends with the dark background or night scenes.

I also tried to turn on the GAME MODE and it seems to help a little. I can start seeing a little more detail in dark clothes and night scenes but VERY little improvement.

Any advice on this TV would be great!!!

Alright, can someone please find me a SHORTER version for setting up this TV? The thread you gave me got way too much OTHER information I don't need.

Just need a few pointers to improve picture quality when watching movies. I don't play video games nor watch cable. Just to watch DVD and blu-ray movies.

It would be nice if this forum has a section for Samsung DLP Projection Setup. You would then select your model number and it will explain the best answer to setup the Samsung.

So, in this website, maybe have it's own section somewhere and say something like this:

1. TV Setup

2. Pick Brand and Model Number:

- Samsung

- Model A

- Model B

- Model C

- Sony

- Model A

- Model B

- Model C

- Pioneer

- Model A

- Model B

- Model C

3. Instruction

That's it!!! Simple as 123. The instruction should NOT be a thread because you are now back to plan A again, back to the beginning. People will start posting thousands of threads. The instruction just needs to highlight all the important settings to improve the image quality.

Did you do a search on "settings" or "user settings" in that thread?

I'm not trying to give you the runaround on what you're looking for, but basically that's exactly what someone here is going to do to answer your question; they'll go to that thread and search for the answer you're looking for. My suggestion to peruse some of the pages on that thread was because these sets have LOTS of little idiosyncrasis, aside from user settings, that you may be interested in trying.

But if all you want to do is adjust your user settings, from that thread here are the recommended starter settings from Eliab, a professional calibrator:

Digital NR - OFF

DNIe - Off

Mode - Movie

Contrast - 40

Brightness - 45

Sharpness - 0

Color - 45

Tint - G50/R50

Color Tone - Warm2
