So we had a local tech come out our Samsung HL-S6187. There was a lawsuit or something and Samsung is offering light tunnel repairs to those TVs affected by the falling mirror. Yay! The only bummer was that after the tech left, we go to turn on the TV and what used to simply be a buzz when we turned the unit back on too quickly after being turned off, is now a constant buzz. It sounded like a bee flying inside of our TV until the lamp fired on and you can hear it in the video below.

I tried blowing out any dust and whatnot from the area that the noise was coming from, but it didn't help. The noise is very intermittent, but I can definitely trigger it if we turn the tv off and then immediately try to turn it back on.

I'd love to know if somebody could tell me their opinion on whether it was a fan, color wheel or possibly something else.

Thanks!

Its hard to say. It could be the lamp or the ballast. Or, the color wheel. However, a bad color wheel is usually a lot louder than that and sounds like a circular saw). Its possible the tech knocked the color wheel while repairing the light tunnel. Have you asked him to come back and diagnose the new problem?

Not him directly, but I did contact their office and asked them what they could do. They called back by diagnosing off of my verbal explanation and concluding that it would be the color wheel. Very shady IMO. Maybe I should just call the tech first.

So lamp or ballast, but not loud enough for the wheel? Maybe I'll call their office and ask them to send the same tech out next week.
