After looking at the GWII and the 507, I had decided I wanted the 507 and was happy because I'd be able to get it because of a roomate that works for an electronics store. Unfortunately it appears that they only carry the 5065.

I had initially thought this was just a different designation for that particular chain, but I know see that it's missing the DCDi and Faroudja 3:2 pulldown. No good.

Has anyone seen a direct comparison of the two? If I utilize the RP62 with the DCDi processor will it be similiar quality, at least on DVD? Is it going to be a marked difference in PQ as to all the joyous raves about the 507 i see on here?

Thanks to anyone who may know anything about the 5065.

You need to search here. Reports are that the 5065 even has the DCDi chip. I guess there is no real guarantee though.

We were told by the samsung reps at the HE show in NYC in May that there were only cosmetic differences between the two, with the 5065 made for BB. This should be so unless they have changed specs on the 507 since then in response to buyer feedback.

cheers,

According to this Samsung PDF

http://www.samsungelectronics.com/tv...chure-1002.pdf

on page 8 it lists the video processing for the 507 as DCDi by Faroudja and for the 5065 it says its the Sage Scaler. Under 3:2 pulldown it lists the 507 as yes(faroudja) and under the 5065 it says "film mode". Other than that the models appear identical except the looks. Hmm...

Anyone have the 5065?

thanks,

dave

Yes, we know what the documentation says. Take it with a grain of salt. Again, you aren't the first person to bring this up, and you aren't going to find any definite consensus, and even if you did, it doesn't mean the specs aren't changing on the fly. Search here and see what you think. How is a person with the set going to even know for sure?

I believe "Mr. Wiggles" had some good info somewhere in the archives.

According to just about everyone, there were internal differences between the '65s and the '7s. There was a consensus that the '65s did not have any ability to remove 3:2 pulldown. Maybe there aren't any differences anymore; it would make sense for Samsung to consolidate the production lines for the two kinds of DLP TVs.

According to posters on this forum, the 65's exist because Samsung wanted to recycle the cabinets that were supposed to have been used for a failed effort to produce a different digital-pixel TV (LCD or LCoS... I don't recall).

Since I own a HLM5065W I thought I'd post a pic of the SM and show how it really does have the Faroudja/Sage FLI2200 chip listed. I see no difference between this menu and the ones that are on the 507s.

Can someone please help with a link to the particular thread that is/was refered to by "Mr Wiggles" on this subject.

PS I found this thread by Mr Wiggles in which he comments on this issue

Like Mr Wiggles said the chip costs less than $20 and I can believe this considering that a $29 price (for 10,000) was stated back in this 2001 CES post
