I have a Samsung HP-S4253 with Comcast cable. I've read several reports that the HD channels are available unencrypted through the cable in my area so I thought I'd give it a shot. Problem is, I can't seem to get my TV to cooperate.

I was unsure whether the signal should be put into the cable or air input, so I split it and have both connected. I can't seem to get the TV to attempt to tune to the DTV channels though. The auto program doesn't pick up anything but the regular analog stuff.

In Air mode I can enter channels with the "-" button (4-1, 2-3, etc...) but the TV won't tune to them. It accepts my input, then immediately flashes the on screen display back to whatever channel I'm currently tuned to.

In Cable mode the "-" key isn't even accepted, so I can't do much there.

Has anyone set up the HP-S4253 to recieve DTV over cable using the built in tuners? I'm not sure what else to try...

A conversation with someone a few minutes ago reminded me that I forgot a detail. I do have digital cable service with a Motorola STB as my regular input to the tv.

It was mentioned that the digital cable channels may be taking up the bandwidth normally used by the higher channels (the DTV channels). Is this anywhere close to correct? It was also suggested the TV won't attempt to tune DTV because it doesn't detect a signal in that range.

I'm definitely entering my newbie zone here so this may be completely inaccurate, but can anyone verify how they grabbed a DTV signal off cable with the HP-S4253?
