Samsung - I need help to choose

Hi I saw the prices for the Sammy HL-S6186W at BB and the HL-S5686W and both o fthem have good prices on them right now. I know these models are last years and have 720p but, my budget restircts me for getting a 1080p and besides I am not one of those who needs the very latest technology, So I know I can live with 720p.

HOWEVER my biggest concern is that how will the SD look on any of these two models. I also looked at the Sammy HL-S5086W which is even less expensive, but I thing since I have a big room the 50" will look small. Anyways, I have digital comcast service and once I get the TV I intend on getting HD, but since all the channels are not yet on HD, will SD look ok in any of these three models mentioned above. I would really like to know your thoughts and comments as I may be picking up the tv this weekend depending the responses I get from you guys.

Thanks in Advance.

Cheers!!!

I have the HL-S5086W which I view from about 11 feet. SD PQ is ok - not great - just ok. Resign yourself to the fact that when you put SD on a very large screen it's not going to be terrific. Also, remember that the PQ is not simply a function of the display. It's also very dependent on the quality of what it's receiving from your cable, satellite, or OTA source. Things like the amount of compression applied to the signal at the source definitely affect PQ.
i got my HL-S6187W for $1850 after tax, its 1080P native. if you look on amazon and price matchign websites, you coudl get the same set price matched at best buy, PC richards, etc. and have a pretty good TV for a great price.
Thanks for the responses. So I think it is then ok to go ahaead and buy any one of the two models I mentioned. As far as price matching, I don't think BB would price match an online dealers price like amazon or anything else. Right now the 720p sammy are going for a good price and I think the deals are good. I just don't want to have something that would give me a lot of problems. So I just wanted to have some reassurance that either the HLS 5686W or the 6186W are both good TV without any known flaws like black grass which the HLS 4266 had.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Cheers!!!
I did a little research and I have heard that apart from the resolution the 1080p native sammys have deeper Blacks. So is it wise to invest in a 1080p or 720p native resolution will be good enough.

What do you guys think

Cheers!!!
Depends.

How far will you be sitting from it? If you are close then yes, it will matter. But if not then 720p will be fine.

Myth #4

A 1080p TV is always better than a 720p TV.

Fact: A 1080p set (one with at least 1920 x 1080 pixels) does have higher resolution than a 720p (at least 1920 x 780) set. But the importance of those extra pixels depends on the size of your TV and the distance you are away from it. If you are sitting more than 8 ft. from a 42-in. HDTV or more than 10 ft. from a 50-in. set, you won't notice the difference. If you mostly watch standard-def TV and DVDs, an expensive 1080p set makes no sense a 720p set will work fine.
i knwo for a fact that best buy WILL price match PC ricahrds, and PC richards WILL pruice match amazon. my pal got a 60" SXRD for 2000 that way from best buy
I will be sitting at the most 7-8 feet away from the TV. So do I have to consider the size according to the seating distance?

Yes. At that distance I'd recommend at least a 50". Some here would argue a 56" @ that distance, but that's a little too much TV for me.

I currently have a LCD projection set (I am upgrading to the new LED sammy DLPs, tv is on the way. :p ) and 50" at my distance (7.3 ft) is just right.
BB does kinda price match dude, they matched my price plus the cost of the shipping that my on line dealer was going to charge. So i got my Samsung HLS 50" for $1350, plus $150 shipping for a total price of $1,500, this was this winter.BTW, I sent my HLS back for pincushioning and got a HLT076 in free exchange.
What is pincushioning? and so should I be concenrned about this when I go to buy the HLS series. Do the HLT series not have pincushioning. Can someone clear this up for me. Oh its such an agony to buy a TV these days. So much of research has to be done to make sure you are inb=vesting in the right thing.

Cheers!!!
its when images on screen are bowed ,most DLP's have this , what matters is how bad it is and how much u are willing to deal with
evilklown, So does the HLS- 5686W have more pincushioning. This is the model I am planning to get. BB has it for less than $1200 now and its fits my budget. Will I have any problems with this model.

Cheers!!!
yes most likely but again it depends how bad per tv...Remember you can always exchange it...also go and see if it bothers you.
Ok, I am getting jitters before buying the TV from reading so much on this forum. I need some encouragement from you guys that what Ima buyingis worth the money and I won't regret it. I have decided that I will be getting the Sammy HL-S5686W 720p tv. I want to know from the owners that this model does not have any major problems apart from the rainbow. Please let me know if there is anything about this Tv that shoudl be taken into consideration before buying. I have a budget of $1500 and my choice primarily for this is because of the size for the money, I will be playing games and it can be done over VGA and that among all other tvs Sammy and Sony stands out and I think sony has other problems like green blob, expensive that Samsung etc.

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Cheers!!!
