When i'm watching a total dark scene in a movie, i see the white cloudy stuff at the corners of my TV, how much of that stuff is acceptable before i can complain that the set is not up to spec?

I had the XBR 46 Sony before, and it has some of that also, but not as much as this Samsung LED 55" tv... The sony had 1/3 of what the Samsung has, should i call the store and complain? Or is this a useless complaint because the manufacturer does not care?

Take a look at the Samsung 8000 series owners' thread. It seems that the 6000, 7000, and 8000 series have the edge lit LEDs which have the condition you're talking about. I combed over the owner's thread and it seems, at least in this forum, that there is no solution to that problem and it is an inherent flaw to edge lit LED TVs. I updated the firmware of my 55" 8000 series via the TV's internet connection and lowered my backlight to 4. That seems to have helped a bit but, the real test will be when I get Dark Knight and Watchmen on Blu-ray this weekend as they has a lot of dark scenes in which this defect could be substantial.

EDIT: the 8500 series seems to have remedied this problem...don't know if it's worth $1000 to me though.

I see that the Samsung USA web site has removed the entire 8000 series completely from the led reference on the home page. This happened a couple of days ago with no explanation whatsoever. The Canadian website does still have the 8000 series prominently placed on the home page...........

anyone know why????

I believe Samsung was sued by Sharp for some patent infringement, and Samsung lost the case. Sharp, iirc, manufacturers the LED Panels for Samsung.

I think this applied only to the 8000 series..
