Well I have been looking at getting a new HDTV and I've narrowed it down to these two TV's. I'm kind of leaning towards the Sharp because of the extra 2'' in screen size but if the Samsung is just a flat out better TV I'll get it. I'm also kind of cautious about the D64U because of all the known banding issues. I'm going to be mainly using the TV for playing Xbox 360.

Which TV is better? Thanks

I have the 52D64U and use it with Xbox, both via component and now HDMI and its great. Only issues is it does have some banding as do all Sharps it seems, other than that I have no issues. Only thing to note is the newer ones don't accept 1080p via VGA it seems.

do all the Sharp D64U's have banding to some extent? Is it bad enough where the set isn't worth purchasing?

Why not just get the Samsung 40A550 and you don't have to worry about banding. Besides, A550 is better then Sharp. Otherwise, go to stores and see if they have both Samsung A550 and Sharp D64U and check out the PQ yourself.
