Hi Guys,

I'm in a situation where I can get either of these tvs for the same price. I suppose the samsung is a better deal, as it is on sale by a larger amount from list price, and is not an entry level model like the u1 (the S1 is no longer available here anywhere).

So I was comfortable getting the 610 due to the good review on televisioninfo, but then I saw them both in the store.

Issues:

Yes, the U1 is definitely dim. However, has anyone here purchased a plasma and actually found that it was too dim to be used in a given room, and had to return it? We have a typical living room with no windows facing the tv directly (rather sliding doors off to the side). That said, we will be moving at the end of the summer and not sure where we'll end up...

That brings up issue 2 - moving a plasma - has anyone had trouble with this?

The 610 is gorgeous and was cranked up at the store, the one thing that really irked me was the motion looked almost "hyper real" and synthetic (assuming 120hz was on) compared to the u1's dim but smooth and natural display.

I feel like the rational decision is the lcd, but I kind of want someone to tell me to take a risk and buy the "cheap" u1....

Thanks!

Hey Wertt!

I just wanted to say my experience with the LCD has been so much better than plasma, I'm more than comfortable saying it's the technology to choose.

Lots of the guys here will choose plasma, but really the differences come down to splitting hairs (amirite?) and so long as you get a good LCD ------- TAKE IT TO THE EXTREME!

AFAIK that's my 2c, hth fwiw.

Go with whichever one you felt looked better. One question: Did you get a chance to look at the Panasonic under dim lighting conditions? You might want to try that before making a decision.

I myself have a Samsung LCD TV and I love it.
