Hello to all,

I'm new here and would like to inquire about a few things. A friend of mine just received his Samsung PN42C430 and he's totally in love with it. Eventually, I'd like to a get a plasma TV possibly in the 50" or greater range. Is there a 1080p model that matches or exceeds the quality of the PN42C430? I'm very picky and don't know where to start, and apprehensive about getting a larger screen size, which may make flaws more apparent. How is it that a 720p set rivals the quality of a 1080p one? We've compared this particular model to that of others (including LCD sets). Thanks in advance.

You should be able to get that same model in a 50 if you want it or a 50c450. 50" 720p Plasma's.

Any recommendations on a 1080p set?

"I owned a 2010 PN42c450 and took it back to get the "B" 2009 model. Colors were so washed out I took it back after 24 hrs. the PN42B450 looked 10 times better out of the box and I even tried tweaking the "C" 2010 model for hrs. and could not get it to look right. Prices went down this year so I wonder if they sacrificed quality. I dont care for the new anti-glare screen that they are using either."

I would stay away from the C430 or C450 until we have some expert reviews.

IMO, that display does not rival 1080p sets (it's good for the price, but nowhere near as good as higher models). There are entire threads devoted to 2009 and 2010 Samsung (and Panasonic) plasmas. Check them out.

Could you give me an example for a 1080p set? Thanks.

Can't you check the huge threads for 2009 and 2010 Sammys and Pannys, or check their web sites? Both manufacturers have many 1080p models (and at 50" or more, it's definitely worth going with 1080p). IMO, the best choices are the V10 (2009 Pannys) or VT25s (2010 Pannys). But there are other 1080p Pannys, as well as good Sammys.

Yea, I just picked it up for $375 from Best Buy over the weekend. I seriously think you can't go wrong for the price. It's used to replace an older 32" Sony Trinitron CRT in the bedroom, so far so good, except I am finding that there's very slight ghosting. Though, I'm unsure whether it's actually the TV yet or something else to blame (ex. cable box, nature of low res images on plasma, cables, etc)

Anyway, for $375.... 42"... seriously, it's pretty good for that.
