I have the above plasma set connected to our Comcast HD DVR (Motorola DCT6412) through a DVI/HDMI cable. I have been using this DVR for a few years with a Samsung DLP set without issue.

When I upgraded to the plasma set, I went into the DVR settings menu to force stretch to 480i content to avoid the vertical black bars when watching non-HD content in order to prevent any image retention.

About 70% of the time, when I switch from an HD channel to a non-HD channel, I lose most colors and the picture looks purple. It also seems I lose half of the lines on the screen (content looks as if it is being seen through blinds for lack of a better term). If I switch back to HD, I get the colors back but going back to non-HD has the same result. I usually have to turn the TV set off and then back on to get rid of the problem.

Does this sound like an issue with the TV set or the DVR? I can still return the TV so if this is the case I may do it. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Yeah, I would since I'm pretty happy with the performance so far. Initially I wanted the LCD 52" version since I tend to be overly OCD about image retention. However, it has taken everything I've thrown at it pretty well so far without issue (and I do a decent amount of gaming and watch plenty of blu ray movies in their original aspect ratios).

I still wonder if the issue is the cable box though. Since the issue starting occurring when I switched the 480i stretching, it could be it (I'd much rather it be the box than the screen). I hear that comcast came out with new DVRs with HDMI ouputs so I may try swapping the box first and see if that takes care of the issue before I box the screen back up and take it back.

Same things happens with my Comcast DVR box on an older humungous 40" XBR tube TV. I think it is the cable box (which I've had for over 2 yrs or the DVI cable). Been too lazy to trade them out. If I turn the TV off and then on it fixes it immediately. Try a new box and cable before you return the tv and post your results. Just my 2 cents.

Yes, same thing here.

I'll be getting another HD DVR since the DLP set is now in the bedroom. I'll put the existing DVR upstairs and put the new one down with the new plasma. I'll try to make sure I get the new kind of DVR with the HDMI output which I would imagine will solve the issue. I also doubt it's the set itself. I may post this question on the cable box section and see if more people are having this issue with these DVRs.

Ok, after some troubleshooting, I nailed it down to an issue with the box itself. Switching from HD to non-HD channels while the force stretch mode is off has no effect (the delay is also not there anymore). Turning force stretch to 480i causes a slight lag when switching between an HD and non-HD channel which results in the above issue.

I'm having the box swapped on 12/31. This issue does not pertain to this HDTV. Thanks again for the help.
