I am experiencing a weird behavior on my Samsung PN63B590. I called the Samsung service. The serviceman came by, blamed the behavior on the weak signal, and left. But his explanation did not make sense. Can someone help?

And here is what is happening with my Samsung PN63B590.
  • This only happens on TV input. All other inputs (HDMI) shows perfect images.
  • I have two other TV's (by LG) and two TV tuner cards on my PC. They work perfectly.
  • The Samsung TV starts with a good picture. When TV is on for more than 5 to 10 minutes, the image starts pixelated.
  • After about 20 to 30 minutes, the screen becomes black and shows a speaker icon in the middle of screen.
  • During all this time, sound is fine.
  • This only happens to the HD channels. If I switch to the SD channel, all video comes back normal. Going back to the HD channel, it starts pixelation and goes black.
  • Turning off and on brings the video back, but the pixelation and black screen comes back.

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I used to have a weak signal problem with my old rptv set. From time to time I get pixelation. Sometimes the screen will go black and then back again to the picture. In that tv set, I can go to the service menu and determine what is the signal strength. I was getting about 1 or 2 dB which is weak. A good signal is around 10 dB.

I bought a video amplifier online to boast the signal. It cost about $30. I attached the amps to the cable going to the tv input cable. This boast the signal strength to around 11 dB. Since then the pixelation went away.

I suggest you try that. The model I bought is called Signal Booster by Motorola.
