Does the samsung SIR-T100 allow the choice of 16x9 or 4:3 output? Also I have a Toshiba HDTV do I need the ability to pass 720?

Thanks

I don't think so. I have one that I just got this week, and a Toshiba TW65X81. But I don't have a manual for it. You can find some specs for it at http://www.samsungusa.com/dtv/prodsirt100.html

There is a slide switch on the back that selects the output to be 400p or 1080i. But as far as I can see, the aspect ratio is set by the broadcaster.

For example, all the HDTV (1080i) shows are 16:9. But on Channel 5 Atlanta, they send out two signals. 5-1 is a 480p 16:9 picture, while 5-2 is a 4:3 picture.

Other DTV shows all seem to be 480p, but the width varies. Some are 4:3, but some are wider, judged by the width of the bars on the side of the picture.

I don't have a Toshiba but the Sony 36xbr400. The Sony will not display 720p. The Samsung SIR-T150 does. The slide switch on the back of mine has four settings. 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i. So the SIR-150 will down-convert HDTV signals to 480i or 480p if the set will support 480p.

The setup menu will allow selection of Aspect ratio 16:9 or 4:3 and full or zoom too.

ps. decided to post this anyway since it was already typed (someone may find it useful) didn't realize you guys were talking about the SIR-T100 till typed. Sorry.
