Samsung SIR-T151 not displaying menus

419 Views 3 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  DrDon
The other day I turned on the tuner after about 6 months of non use. I am no longer able to get HD to output to my projector (standard programming comes though, but with no channel indication), and I cannot access the menu (via remote or built in controls). Is this thing toast? I doubt it's worth fixing, but am just wondering if anyone can shed some light on why this is happening...

Check the output switch in the back and make sure you have it set correctly. Both the composite and component outputs run simultaneously, but the menus only show up on one or the other depending on where the output switch is set. If your projector only takes, say, 720p and you have the switch at 1080i, you'd see no picture from component, but a picture with no menus from composite (assuming your projector doesn't side-convert).

When you change the switch setting, wait a few seconds for the box to cycle. It's not instantaneous.
Thanks for the suggestion...but the switch hadn't been touched! I just tried disconnecting the S-vid out, and tried all 3 HD switch positions...still nothing. The cable works, and the projector accepts signal from a computer so it seems like the component outs aren't working.
Probably cooked, but you could try flipping it to 480i, hooking up the composite output (that way you'll get menus) and running through all the setup screens. Longshot, but you might as well try everything. Reconnect component and hope for the best.
