It has been stated that at the D-VHS festival, they played a copy of something recorded on the JVC 30K using the new samsung STB with firewire.

Does anyone know anything more about this new Samsung STB? Is it on the market, or if not when?

The 151 will retail for 399, the 160 and 165 for between 599 and 699. Funny how much a firewire output increases the price of a the machine, minimum 200 bucks.

The 165 also has DVI/HDCP output and a cable TV (QAM) tuner(which the 151 does not have). So the price increase isn't entirely becasue of the firewire.

This should solve the problem of making tapes that play back perfectly on the JVC 30K by feeding the signal of the modulator into the STB.

Will the 165 model firewire connection be compatible with 5C sources, such as D-Theater tapes?

Probably not compatible with D-Theatre, as it is a proprietary

system owned by JVC, but DON'T take my word 100%.

JVC has STB's coming (along with a HD-TIVO-like device) that

has firewire. Hitachi also had HDTV-monitors AND STB's with

BOTH firewire AND DVI coming out soon, so the situation

is looking up, at least for now!!!
