Samsung T165 power up question

241 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  hdpaul
I have a T165 that is about a month old. It came with version 2 software so I emailed Samsung and received the 3.10 software and installed it with no problems.

Now, when I power up, I get the Hello message, then the channel #, but my screen is all colored lines going every which way. I have to power down and up again, maybe twice for it to come up OK, and it doesn't seem to matter which channel it's on either.

Once it's on, it's fine, as long as I don't power down, then I have to start all over. At times, it does power up fine the first time, but not often.

Anyone else experience this or have any ideas what is wrong? Could it be the software? Should the unit just be left on all the time?

Thanks,

Paul

I have been using my T165 for about 2 months without the power up issue you mention. I shut it off when not in use and never have the issue you describe. The only issue I have is when a station sends bad PSIP data (this is bad according to Samsung) the box goes into a continuous reboot cycle. This only happens in my area on the PBS channels that do multicasting. When the station is not being used the T165 can not handle it.
What kind of TV? I have a Samsung D* HD box (160) and have had behavior similar to this maybe 4 times in a year.

It was discussed here a bit. Basically, those of us that had seen the problem decided that it had something to do with the DVI handshaking protocol. Shutting down both the display and the 160, waiting a few minutes and tuning them back on cures the problem. My display is a Samsung HLM DLP RPTV. I'm using DVI.
I have a Sony 34" xbr800. Currently using Component, haven't tried DVI yet.

It seems to be in the tuner as far as I can see. Although I did not use it much before I upgraded the software, it seems to have started after the upgrade. Also, I wonder if it could have something to do with the surge protector I am using?

Thanks,

Paul
