Samsung Ultra Q1 UMPC as a media remote?

1054 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Slack
Hey

I have been trying to find a good way to control my media, i have not found a single app to control everything that i like, so i use VLC to stream DVD's, iTunes for music and so on

I currently control it all by using a diNovo Edge keyboard

I have been thinking it would be kinda cool to use a touch screen device, so was thinking of getting a UMPC such as a Q1 Ultra - i would set the device to remotely connect to my media PC via WIFI and control everything via the UMPC

has anyone else tried this? my only real concern is battery life. If im watching a 2.5 hour film, that film will also stream to the UMPC which is going to kill the battery, unless the screen can be turned off during the film, but i dont think this is going to be possible

does anyone have any ideas/suggestions?

Many Thanks

does anyone else use a tablet or a UMPC to control media? if so, what are your thoughts? thanks
I thought about it one point, but it is rather an expensive way to handle that. Are you thinking about remote accessing your HTPC with the Q1?

Yes i am - and i think i have sorted the battery problem. I will set the screen to turn off after 2 mins when running on batteries - i tested it with a laptop last night and it was fine, even though a remote vista session was on top, the screen still turned off and turned on instantly when pressing a button

I just ordered a Q1 Ultra - i believe i will be a fantastic was to control my media
You might want to return that Q1 ultra, and go with the original Q1.

You can get them dirt cheap from Woot.com (when they are offered).

The original lacks the thumb split keyboard, and no doubt has less cpu and ram. but it runs XP tablet pretty spiffy.

You could run girder's net remote on the q1 and girder on the htpc. I thought about it briefly for my htpc, but I have a lot of stuff that still needs IR, and the original Q1 doesn't deliver IR.
