Hi I have been looking for the best flat panel

I have compared the samsung top of the line with the

panasonic vt30 at the store. I ended up buying the samsung,

last night i was watching movies and noticed a few white areas at the bottom of the screen when the content was dark or within the frame of letterbox movies.

I am thinking of returning the set and exchanging for either the Panasonic VT30

or the elite. Would i expect to see these issues with the elite?

The reason I chose the samsung was its brightness and sharpness comparing side by side with the panasonic in the store although the detail in the pan sonic in the dark area seemed much greater with the panasonic. Just looking for some advice to help me decide Thanks!!!

The Elite is full backlit local dimming so should not have the flashlighting issues of the UN65D8000 while still giving you the brightness and sharpness of the Sammy. It's uber-expensive and has some color accuracy problems that are due to be fixed via a firmware update. If you don't choke on the price it'd probably be your best choice.

The VT30 isn't as impressive in the typical overlit showroom as the D8000 but should be fine in a normally lit room and offer a better bang for the buck.

Hi thanks for the response

sorry if this has already been discussed before

but the salesperson at the store today told me the electronics

and panel were no different than the sharp led model?

Also in the store I was very impressed with the black level

of the elite but it did not seem as sharp as the samsung 8000?

wondering if its related to how they have them set up?

That is what happens when you have posters on this forum who think they know what they are talking about and conjure up conspiracy theories about the ELite being the same as the 835 just with another name on it. The ill-informed come here and believe everything they read because of the reputation AVS used to have and pass on incorrect information.

The electronics are completely differant and never ask a salesperson a technical question. The Samsung is edge-lit , the Panny is a plasma and the Elite is an LCD as the Sammy is but lite up with backlighting rather than edge.

Either the Panny or the Elite are better sets or even the Sony XBR 929.

Nothing bigger than 55 on the Sony.

OP, you want the best TV, get the Elite.

The 65" Sony is supposed to be available for sale by the end of October.

Own the 60" D8000 and it's screen uniformity and blacks cannot touch the Elite with the lights off. Clouding, edge bleed - running credits expose this fraud for what it is and it's a pretender compared to the Elite and most store auditions will not replicate that lighting or lack thereof and it'll burn your ass when you see credits running at night with the lights out.

This is something you may not observe in the store but in your home it's very obvious.

If I had it to do over I'd own the Elite 70" and plan to in the future unfortunately I bought from a dealer where I got a great deal but wasn't an Elite dealer for me to trade-up for but plan to get one when they drop in price in the future and we see what Sharp has planned for 2012 after CES.

wow thanks every one for all your help!!

I have the samsung 8000 and can still return it!

Very hard decisions! My samsung has some vertical bands,

light bleed etc, however all said and done it still is impressive

I wish there were more reviews on the elite since its impossible to compare at the store since they are not set up optimally.

Does any one have any opinions on the Sharp 70 735 set?

How different is it from the elite or the U65D8000 ?

I am thinking of getting the Sharp 70" 735 but I did like the Picture quality of the U658000 in the store.

Also, I see a lot of threads about people having clouding issues with the Sharp.

What is a better choice here between the Sharp 70" or the 65" Samsung?

Thank you for your insights.

Thank you for your insights.

The 70" Sharp is the better performer between the two, no contest. You'll have less clouding with the Sharp as it is a full array panel.

Samsung has set their TVs from the manufacturer to have loads of edge enhancement and a very high color temperature (a lot of blue in the overall white balance) to give the perception of a brighter picture since it is what most customers are immediately drawn to.

Go to the Flat Panel subforum with a thread called "King of TV" or something to that extent as there was someone there going through the exact same thing you are now.
