I've been looking at tv's lately and I think that I have narrowed it down to the Samsung 46ln650 or the Toshiba 46xv540u. The problem is that I can't find a store that carries both to compare side by side. So far I have been impressed with the Samsung picture wise and the Toshiba looked nice, but didn't spend as much time with it. I've heard nice things about the Toshiba though. The most important things to me in a set are picture quality, both in hd and sd, and also reliability. So if anyone has spent a fair amount of time with these two sets please let me know what your thoughts are. Thanks alot.

Bump....

I'm also looking at the same two sets. My budget is $1500 and the 650 is a lil more than that online but the Toshiba 46xv540u is $1298 plus tax at a dealer near me. That is a great price for the size and 10bit panel/ 120Hz but I know nothing about that LCD. All my research has been on the Samsung 46a550 and 46a650. I've seen all three in the store and they seem to be dead even with their settings on the floor models.

Any input from you guys is appreciated!

From what I've read, people seem to really dig the Toshiba...and if I'm not mistaken, it uses a Samsung panel as well. It seems that Toshiba might have a better grip on 120hz technology, however.(or so I've read so far)

The Samsung is very attractive looking TV though.

I actually found a local dealer that had both on display and from what I saw I thought the Samsung was better. To me it did a better job with reducing noise in the picture, however it is hard to say if it was the tv or the signal. Either way I wouldn't dismiss the Toshiba since it has a very nice price.

Toshiba has far fewer complaints about quality issues than Samsung does. I would choose the Toshiba based on overall quality and reliability. $1298 for the 46XV540U is an insane price. Might I ask what dealer is selling it for that cost?

I just bought the 42XV540U for $1499 + tax, I'm also interested which dealer had the 46" for that price. I can easily say that the 120Hz motion is much more subtle and IMO better on the Toshiba than the Sammy 650. The 42" version has an LG panel with a super fast response time, but the 46" has a very nice Samsung panel with better black levels... If this dealer is local, I may return my 42.

$1298 for a 46xv540? That is insane, I got my 42 for that price plus $2, good stuff! The tv's are very good but if you are looking for that super realistic motion enhancement that the xbr4's do, you will be disappointed. The Toshiba's motion enhance is very nice and much more subtle, to the point where you can tell the motions are more realistic but still retains the film-llike motion instead of it looking liek a play like the xbr4's do. Either way its good with me, and for $1,298 you should definitely take a closer look at the Toshiba.

i actually sold the 42 inch version of the toshiba and the samsung- both are great sets, but the toshiba has an edge in 3 cases- 1.- if you are a gamer the is definetly the tv to go with- the game mode on the tv advance the relay from the controller to the tv- which is an issue with lcd tvs- 2. the 120hz feature is way more natual looking in the toshiba- on the samsung it looks kinda like a 3d movie 3. color master- you can adjust each individual color to your liking. the only reason ive sold more of the samsungs it the fact that i have it in the 52- that is my best sellin 52 lcd- oh and the toshiba does have a samsung panel- but is tweaked a little to toshiba's specs
