Hi All,

I've decided that I am going Plasma since I hate motion blur and like HD sports. I have mostly decided I am going Samsung. I am one of those strange people that like my whites brighter, rather than my darks darker. Side by side, Samsung just looks brighter and crisper than Panasonic, at least with the Panasonic models I can afford since I want to get a 58" for about $2k and high end Panasonics that might be brighter are too expensive.

With that in mind, I am trying to figure out why certain Samsung models from 2008 are actually more expensive than 2009, if I understand the model numbers correctly.

Roughly, online, I can find the following prices:

PN58A650 (2008?) for ~ $2000 (PN58A550 is actually more than this!)

PN58B550 (2009?) for ~ $1900

PN58B560 (2009?) for ~ $2300

PN58B650 (2009?) for ~ $2300

Among these models, I am trying to figure out why the B550 is so much cheaper than the B560, and why the B560 is same price as B650. Is $400 dollars worth it when the B550 is compared to the other two?

The second question I have is if the A650 measures up to these 2009 models? I assume the 650 model is more advanced than the 5x series stuff, so the same question - better to save $300 getting the A650, or should I go B series?

Thanks for any assistance or information! I'll probably be buying in the next month or so.

The panels on the new B series Sammy are superior so I'd stick with the B series.

The best bang for the buck in high end TVs would be the B650 series. Of course the larger the better if it fits your wallet and room space.

Thanks Discopaul - is the main difference in the 550 and the 650 the internet capabilities, computer connections, and some other extras like that? I am not really interested in those items, so if the picture is just as good on the 5x as the 6x, then I probably will just save a few dollars.

I think I might have read that the 6x and 8x series have better glare filter maybe too? Is it that much better, or not really much difference, if you happen to know?

I believe the 650's biggest feature is its step-up AR filter. This may make a difference if you watch in a well lit room, or during the day in a windowed room.

That's true versus the 550 but the 560 and 590's have the same filter as the Series 6.

Samsung is incredibly illogical about the distinctions between models... The worst is the 850 vs. 860 where the only real difference is the supposed lack of "cinema smooth" in the 850. Except all you have to do is go to the service menu to turn the feature on and poof you have an 860...
