First thing you need to do is determine if it is a dust blob. By using the focus, a dust blob should be able to be brought into some detail. Assuming it is, you then have to go through the cleaning procedure:

First, thoroughly clean the filter and the housing underneath it. Then, remove the top and turn the projector on its side. Using a can of "canned air" that has been blown down about a third (to prevent any liquid from coming out), blow around the entire interior of the projector to remove dust. Then, blow all around the the three panel assembly which you will see clearly with the top off. BE VERY CAREFUL TO KEEP THE CAN LEVEL AND DON'T AGITATE IT TOO MUCH AS YOU MOVE IT AROUND. You don't want any liquid to come out!

Make sure the inside of the top is clean as well, reassemble and check your work.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Dan. Gave that a try and it seems to be a bad panel. Still have the blue shading and does not appear to be dust. Oh well, just have to suffer it on my daytime HD sports projector.

You're welcome, Hessel. Probably not worth fixing as I expect Sanyo to give us a D5 based generation pretty soon, if not, Epson, Panasonic and most everyone else certainly will. I plan to upgrade when these become available next year though I am also watching this new Canol LCoS to see if anyone can tweak it to get decent CR.
