Knuck,

Yes, I and I am sure many others here are interested. Please post your impressions and comparisons with other projectors you've seen.

Thanks

A 3,000 lumen projector with digital input. I think we are all interested. Also, where did you buy it and how much did it cost you? Must use the same bulb as the PLV-60.

Christopher
Of course! Tell all.

I'm especially interested in whether I can fit my car through the screen door like on the XP21N.

--Les
Christopher, the unit sells for just over $7000.00 U.S.

Arrow, it all depends on how big your car is.

I should have a detailed review posted by the end of tomorrow, hopefully with pics.

First impressions: there is screen door but the more I play with it the less apparent it becomes. I'll let you know the results. Color is awesome and contrast is excellent as well.

Unfortunately the unit did not come with a DVI cable.I'm trying to get my hands on one and hopefully will have one before I have to return the unit.

Brian,

Is this because you're getting used to it or making tweaks to get rid of it?

Les:

Probably a little of both. Actually it seems to depend on the source and equipment. I am running either a non-HDTV signal or DVD through a quadscan, using the projectors RGB port, through the projectors component and svideo directly or through an HTPC,using a Radeon VE card, through the RGB port. Unfortunately I have yet to find a DVI cable and do not have access to HDTV. We are a little behind up here in Canada. I would expect that the latter two sources would be superior to the results I am currently finding. Never hurts to test a product through the most adverse conditions. Things can only go up from there.

Calibration also makes a difference re. screen door/graininess.

I will try to post pics of all of the sources and you can decide for yourself.

So far I have reached one conclusion. The XP30 has a much better internal scaler than the PLV60. In fact, if I purchase this projector I will be selling the quadscan.

Brian,

How would you compare the internal scalar/deinterlacer with the XP21N? That is if you had a chance to review the XP21N.

Phussary:

Unfortunately I have not had an opportunity to demo the XP21N. I have been told that one of the reasons for the price difference is the scaler, but I can't verify that and I would not treat the source as gospel.

Brian
All the reviews I've read indicate the Xp21n needs an external scaler. And the PLV60 is not much better plus it has a "grainy" picture.

So the added price for the XP30 would be worth it.
I wonder if a panamorph upgrade or IMX-VT upgrade would resolve the graininess issue and give it a DLP-like finish. . .3000 ansi lumens is intriguing. I like the prospect of watching MNF with the lights on @120" screen.
I have posted my impressions and some pics at the following post:
