Sanyo Z4 adding screen to the rebate - why???

Has anyone noticed that Sanyo added a free Draper 92" screen to the free bulb rebate?

If so, doesn't this strike you as somewhat foolish? A rebate where you get a free lamp is pretty darn good. You've got the lamp that comes with the projector so 'rebate lag' shouldn't matter and a lamp has some real value. For a screen though a lag really does matter. Its not like anyone is going to want to put the projector on the shelf and wait for the screen. For that matter it doesn't sound like its that good a screen so I'm wondering if the screen really offers any value at all.

I'd really rather they look at something more useful like a cash rebate or, better yet, just drop the price a little.

Just thinking out loud....

Sounds like a throw out of excess inventory to me passed off as a good deal. That's my conspiracy theory anyway. :)

Certainly not the first tiem this has been done. The 4805 had a big push where they offered a screen rebate.
I think the screen should just "come" at the same time as the projector. You shouldn't have to wait to mail in the rebate.
It's economics. A certain percentage will never mail in the rebate so they won't have to give it to everyone.
I'm really interested in this. Does anybody know if this screen is any good?

Yea. Is it a good screen?
I have a 100" 4:3 draper luma - which is pretty much equivalent to the 92" 16:9 width wise. I believe that's the screen that's specified. I can only compare it to my da-lite 92" high power. It's a manual pull down, similar to the da-lite model B. The pull down mechanics are a little better and smoother on the Luma. My luma is matte white and generally works ok. However it does show visible waves after a while, both physically and with images which pan horizontally. For my viewing environment the high power is a much better screen. The da-lite does show small waves but does not show it in the projected image.
Many people are upgrading to this projector, which means they will have a used projector to sell or give to relatives. This is where an extra screen could come in handy, even if you have to wait for it. In the meantime, you can do what many people do which is project onto a white wall.
I'm using a wall until my free screen arrives and I am pleasantly surprised at how good it is on the wall.
