I have received my Sat C kit and plan to install it very soon. I have some questions regarding the installation.

1. I have the original Oval dish that came with the indoor 4x4 multi-switch. Do I need to have the Sat C switch installed indoors near the multi-switch, or can I install it outside near the dish and alleviate running a fifth cable to the inside of the house?

2. Why are the 9" and 31.5" cables that are supplied with the Sat C kit rated at RG-59 and not RG-6? I didn't think you were suppose to use RG-59 with a satellite installation. Am I wrong...does it matter?

Thanks in advance for any help!:)

I believe that you can mount the combiner for Sat C in either location. The only disadvantage for mounting indoors is that you'll need five leads from the dish.

What brand Sat C kit did you get? I didn't think anyone was using RG59 these days. It will work, but the performance isn't as good as RG6.

RG 59 becomes a problem on long runs. For 9" & 31.5" runs, it shouldn't be a problem.

It's the Terk brand kit from Radio Shack. I think for my own sanity I will use my own RG-6 anyway. Thanks for the input, since you say it won't be a problem I will definitely mount the combiner near the dish. That will make the install take about 20 minutes as opposed to ~2 hours if I had to run another cable into the house.

Thanks guys!:)

DMan,

I'm doing exactly what you suggested. I have a new 5x4 multiswitch (for antenna also) inside the house and have the combiner on the back of the dish. Just inspect those cables in the Terk kit! I had an electrical short in one end of the 31.5" cable and the conductor was so short in the other end that it bent over and got crushed when I threaded it. Took a while to figure out my two problems, but everything is fine now.
