Hi,

I am trying to set up a small network of PCs that I can stream mpeg4 video and audio to. It is my impression that video data is transmitted in mpeg4 by the satellite companies so I would like to get the mpeg4 stream before it is converted back to video where I would have to compress it back to mpeg4 for my network transmission.

My idea is to stream satellite programming to a few PCs acting as HD TVs. Does anyone make such a satellite or cable set top box?

Thanks,

Greg Laird

The stream from the satellite company is encrypted, even if you could extract it (which no STB would allow you to do as noted), you wouldn't be able to do anything on a PC with it.

I think the only way of doing this would be with a modified satellite set-top box - like the R5000 - if they still work with H264 content (aka MPEG4)? However I don't know how suitable these would be - if they are an option at all.

You'd need a box per channel you are streaming...

Probably easier to use HD-PVRs connected to component outputs - but that would include a decode/recode.
