I thinking of replace the speakers that came with my Onkyo HT-S790 HTIB (except for the sub) with some Polk Audios. This will be for my approx 13 x 28 ft living room with the front speakers facing the shorter dimension.

So the choices are Polk Audio RM85 or RM95 5CH Satellite Speaker System or Polk Series II Monitor 50 ,Monitor 30 and CS1


I'm considering the satellites be cause we have a 1yo child and the speakers can be mounted out of reach. And also a large center will obstruct the view of my 55 inch LCD and I'm not willing to wall mount the center or the TV.


I'm assuming that the bookshelf/floor-standing speakers will have larger sound than the satellites.


So any opinions will be appreciated...Thanks

The Polk monitor series ii speakers will mop the floor with the satellites from Polks. I started with Polk rm6750 5.1 and upgraded to a Polk monitor 30's and a cs1 center. I noticed a huge improvement

How do they compare to the Polk Monitor Series IIs I've mentioned above?

I'd rather have the Jamo's as I like the more balanced sound of Jamo vs Polk Monitor. The Polks are brighter sounding to me. But this is a listener preference thing.


I wouldn't get RM85 or RM95 at all as they're too small for a 13' x 28' room.


Whether you get the Polk or Jamo towers they'll be big step up over what you currently have.


Why not the Jamo S606 system which has been getting great reviews?

So now its down to Polk Monitor Series II vs Jamo S606. Both similarly priced and for the the most part, from what I've read in this and other forums, it seems to come down to personal preference when comparing these two. But since I don't have any opportunity to listen to the Jamos and really have no point of reference, can anyone chime in on home theater vs music (75%/25%)? Also are there any significant differences in terms of "rocking the house" on rare occasions when I'm home alone. And my wife likes to listen to classical.
