My original plan to simplify my system (Lexicon DC-1, Sony multichannel analog preamp, Circle Surround analog preamp, ICBM, Anthem 3 channel amp, Carver 5 channel amp, and a host of manual and auto switchboxes) was to get Anthem 30, then decided I needed to replace the Carver amp so looked for receiver to use with my Anthem amp running front channels.
Also waqnted top notch room eq and decided to wait for Denon 4806, but the lure of Logic 7 and advanced EQ of the Harman Kardon 635, plus great price won me over. And saved me $$$$ to get other toys.
It was difficult at first to not spend thousands of $$$ for more high end equipment (even thought seriously about the Lexicon receiver but wanted room eq) but I took a more parctical and cost effective approach.
So I have ordered the HK 635, also the Crowson tactile transducer couch kit, commercial meat slicer, a dozen Western style Japanese kitchen knives, several high powered led small flashlights, Japanese tailor shears for my clothing/quilt making wife, new tires for my truck, books, cds, and dvds and still have $500 to go.
So many toys, so little time.
I figure that using my same front channel amps, plus a more advanced version (although less configurable) of Logic 7 plus the room eq should be a step up in sound from my current equipment. The Denon 4806 with it's Audyssey EQ and other features may still be a further step up in sound quality for music listening, but I realize that there is always newer and better around the corner.
And I can save for my next upgrade in a couple of years as the technology continues to change/improve.
