Say a dude wants to....

So here's the layout...I'm 20 years, no wait 21 years over due for upgrading. My room is 13W x 22L x 7.5H...I'm set on my bed layer of Ascend 340's and their 200's for surround duty. Now I'm leaning on Rhytmik subs as well, and I have read up on advantages of dual subs, which is my intent, so my question is, can I say get their FV15HP to "handle" the low end (less than 20hz) and maybe get the F8 to handle the mid range "punch" if you will, for maybe a nearfield sub. First off could it possibly be a bust? or is it a crazy theory? or could it work?

Do I do a sub crawl for the best spot for the 15 and even the F8? has anyone done something like this? Please pardon if this outlandish, I am racking my brain over what size to get as this is a sealed room. I am not a huge basshead however, like probably..well a lot on here like it to sound clean and impactful...Like I said, I am 20 plus years behind the curve and am going to go with 7.2.4 atmos system for the next 20 hopefully

Thoughts?

Most would recommend not combining ported with sealed although it can be done. If two subs are your intention i would recommend matching subs then there isn't any issues merging two different subs with different frequency responses..

Is your room on concrete slab or floating floor, how many seating positions, budget? Not been a bass head a pair of FV15HP will be plenty in a 2145^3 sealed room even if on concrete imo for your needs. If on a floating floor and not a lot of seating positions the G25HP will likely get down to 10Hz in that room and with two 15" drivers should have plenty of midbass.
2,145 cu.ft. isn't a very large room. IMO, for (considerably) less than the $2,300+ cost of an FV15HP plus an F8 you can get all the mid-bass punch and bottom-end grunt you could want (especially if you're not a huge basshead) from a pair of subs such as:
- Monoprice Monolith 12"
- HSU VTF-3 MK5 HP
- PSA V1510DF
- Rythmik FVX15

I asked in the sub forum last year about combining different subs with different capabilities and was told the equipment to manage that would cost more than buying another matching sub, plus to get non-localized sound from both subs would be very challenging. So, my 10" sub is now on the PC...because why not.
I ended up buying two 15"ers and have no regrets.

Yeah...I was nosing around on Rhytmiks site reading up on the F8, I know I didn't phrase what I was asking right until after I posted, however you very much answered, or settled in my brain what I was already leaning towards, the dual 15's, guess I was looking for some validation..lol. It is on a floating floor that is carpeted, it will be a single row/couch in the MLP distance right now with just a 5.1 is about 15 ft from TV. There is another couch along the wall however my wife and kids aren't to concerned with the surround as I am, until I get done upgrading:D...then their tune will change once they get a taste of enveloping sound and at that point I will build a tall enough riser to make it 2 rows. At this point I will be getting the first subwoofer then adding the second in a few months down the road.

Thanks for the reply.

Thanks gentlemen....more validation for me...this helps tremendously with my analysis paralysis. I think the FVX15 is on tap.
With your MLP 15' from the TV in a 22' long room looks like it should be a good location for bass response (middle of the long wall isn't good). If Rythmik is your first choice a pair of the FV15HP will be great performers and clean giving you lots of headroom. As mentioned you could save money with other brands and choices without loosing sound quality just a different sound signature.

Now that I can, more than likely, check subwoofers and speakers off the list...I'm going to go a little sideways here, my other monkey on my back is whether to just do the whole 7.2.4 or start with 5.2.4? only because my room is pretty "skinny" if you will,( really don't know if that is a "thing" since it looks like this new to me, audessy stuff calculates delays etc) and I don't want to put the MLP halfway so I am torn on the benefits of side surrounds vs. my room...UUGGHH...I should nose around the forum to see if this has been talked about, which is probably like asking if a bear craps in the woods, any of you guys go through this conundrum?...I won't hijack my own thread anymore after this if there is another category for this.
Absolutely you should go 7.2.4 set up as your room isn't to "skinny". Audyssey will set delays for all speakers (based of 1st mic position). Leave MLP where you plan to have it and go for it imo. Place sides on the wall beside your MLP and the rears behind your MLP and you will have a better envelopment of surround.

I would get two smaller subs instead of one large one, and make them both ported or both sealed to simplify integration.

I started with 7.x when first setting up my new media room 10+ years ago, went back to 5.x and didn't miss the rears, then back to 7.x a few years ago. My experience, which may or may not match your's or anybody's, is that few discs actually makes much use of the rears (whether 5.1 or 7.1). However, it is nice to have for those that do, and having the rears in play even when upmixed from 5.x is rewarding much of the time, so I'll stick with 7.x. Not convinced on the Atmos etc. demand yet; I have heard from some who really like it, others say it is little used even in the discs that claim it (same problem I have with 7.1 discs), and am not willing to invest in extra amps and speakers at this time. I am considering a processor upgrade to enable Atmos, so who knows what the future holds.

If the room is rectangular and sealed there will be a bass null in the middle. I would aim to put the MLP at the 1/3 or 2/3 point from the from wall if possible. Multiple subs can help alleviate the null but if you can arrange seating it would be much better. My room is 13' 3" wide and I place the surrounds a little forward of the MLP, mainly to get some walking room around the couch, but I tend to prefer the surrounds a little forward anyway. Plenty of room in the back for rears.
