Assuming the costs are equal is the SB12 Plus from 2006 worth buying over a brand new SB1000? The response plots look very similar between the two but the plus has a larger box and stronger amp (plus EQ).
IMO the SB12-Plus is clearly the better of the two subs and worth the same money as a new SB-1000s. But it's nine years old, so there's always the possibility of some out-of-warranty issue arising.
If you're confident that the SB12 has been gently-used, I think it's worth the gamble.
I have the PB1000 and use 25hz and below often with both music and movies (as opposed to the SB1000)
With the newer line, you are guaranteed that the sub will last a minimum of 5 years under warranty, which is a selling point for me if I were in your shoes.
I would say it depends on your room size. If you have a larger room, then possible the SB12, if you have a smaller room, I would easily vote for the SB1000.
