I played HellBoy II with DTS HD 7.1 audio.

The Yamaha's lights for Surround Back Right and Left speakers did not light.

The DTS HD light illuminated, and high quality sound did come from all eight speakers.

The LFE, L, R, C, and Surround Right and Surround Left lights did illuminate.

I am running a Samsung BD-P2550 BluRay via HDMI into a Yamaha RX-V663.

The audio output on the Samsung is set for bitstream "audiophile" which is for HDMI 1.3. The Yammie 663 is capable of HDMI 1.3.

I calibrated the amplifier with the integrated mic (YPAO) and it all tested fine.

I spoke to the techs at Yamaha, and they were not able to help, except to say either the DVD did not have the ability to light the lights, or the unit was defective.

I think it is simpler than that. Any ideas?

This sounds like the kind of problem I could easily learn to ignore rather than sending a unit back and getting the same problem, or worse yet, getting a new one.

As long as the sound is coming from the rear speakers isn't that what really counts?

I suspect it's a quirk on the 663. Try the 663 thread, I swear I have heard some Yamaha owners complain about a similar problem, but I forget which models.
