Scalers vs. Line Quadrupler for CRT's

OK, let's open up a can of worms. I just upgraded to a Barco Graphics 808S and also want to upgrade my DVDO iSCAN.

I want to hear suggestions for the best option to get the most out of this projector... without spending a fortune.

Do I go with a Line Quadrupler like a QuadScan Pro, or should I go with a Video Scaler, like an Extron DVS 150, Zinwell Brite-View, or an ELI VS-2000.

It looks like I can get most of these for around $400- $500 price range, but don't want to be kicking myself after the purchase.

I'm looking for answers like best resolutions, artifacting, video adjustments, ease of use, etc., as well as overall recommendations.

Bring it on!

I know HTPC is great, but I want to limit this to Scalers and Line Quad's.
what about a HTPC, acting as a *DEDICATED* Scaler or Line Quadrupler?

I almost have my HTPC line doubler done. Just flip the switch, it doubles. Flip the switch again and it's off. Nothing to it, and with a little work, you could have a scaler/multiplier of the same concept, that could sit right alongside your existing equipment.

Well, it looks as if he's set a $500.00 cap. Once you've mastered the setup of a Quadscan Elite HD you'll be in good hands. However, if you know the resolution you want, you will never use all the other resolutions a scaler has. My next purchase will be for a Faroudja NR @720P.

Where would the NEC IPS-4000 fit into this line-up? I saw a couple go by last week, and was curious. Not $400 curious, but curious nonetheless...

Later,

I have a Quadscan Elite HD moded by Mike Parker that I am going to be selling, if interested send me a PM.

John,

What sort of mod did Mike do on your Quadscan,

and did it give you better results?

Thanks.

Cheers,

Steve.

The IPS-4000 is only a line doubler. The 4000Q is a quadrupler.
I used a DVDO and a Quadscan Pro with my first projector (BD701S). I am now using ESI VLS-2000 with my BG1209. The ESI is much better in performance and more user friendly than either of those in

my opinion. Plus I've seen 'em go for $300 or $400. It's the best deal for the money going I think.
He removed the input and output filters which made the picture much sharper for crts.
The latest version of QSE-HD has the filters removed from the factory.
