After much reading, it seems like the general consensus is that picture quality looks better with Scan Velocity Modulation (SVM) turned off.

I have an older Pioneer SD-P6085 (1996+-) with the Service Manual in hand. I have identified where the two SVM coils (wrapped around the red & green guns) plug into the circuit board.

Can I disable SVM on this unit simply by unplugging the two coils, or is there something more to it?

The picture looks quite good after following the Avia DVD process, cleaning lenses & mirrors, focusing, and converging in Service Mode (what a nightmare!).

Any other tips on this box to maximize quality?

Thanks in advance...
