Hi everyone,

I have been renting alot of suspense movies at BB and Netflix lately. Here is a list of them. All of them had very good PQ on my 507/XP30 system.

The Breed

Fear Dotcom

The Haunting

Jeepers Creepers

The Fog

Below

Ghost Ship

The Fog maybe of interest to some of you. It was John Carpenter's (Halloween) second movie. I think it was well done and very suspenseful. It is not full of gore and is a good movie to watch on a Saturday night with wife/girlfriend. It may seem dated as it was made in the late 70's but I believe it was fully restored for the transfer and looked very good for a film that old to my eyes. Any recomendations on other good/ not to graphic

movies?

Does nobody else think that jeepers was nothing more than a bad episode of Buffy? that monster at the end...

Now I love B movies, much to my gf dismay, but that was a bad film. Surely you can not think it was scary??

I wish I could see a movie that would scare the crap out of me. I want to feel scared, I want to feel whats going on in the movie will happen to me as soon as the lights go out. I've seen many horror movies, I liked a lot of them, but I've been disappointed that none have ever scared me.

I Loved EH!

Jeepers was enjoyable/campy for the first 30 mins or so... then... well... I'm not really sure what the heck the rest of that movie was trying to accomplish, other than giving me time to perfect my popcorn-eating form.

To me, the only reason Jeepers was even remotely creepy was the voice casting... the teens were being chased by Buffalo Bill!! "Candy Cane... Candy Cane.... PUT THE LOTION IN THE F**CKING BASKET!!!" :D

I think the original Alien is a good example of the type of picture current film makers should pay close attention to when it comes to making a truly scary film.

I can't think of any film (even including The Exorcist) that scared me more the first time I watched it in the theatre than Alien. Never mind how scared I was, there was a guy sitting behind me with his wife who was so frightened he kept grabbing the back of my chair! Timing/pacing is really everything when it comes to a good scare...few films have done it as well as Alien.

Out of the darker films I've seen recently, Fraility is well made...but this film is more horrifying than actually scary.

The Ring and Ringu had a few unsettling moments, but other than that... (yawn!).

The Haunting (remake) was total crap. I laughed all the way through it. Great DTS-ES 6.1 demo, however. Too bad it was wasted.

The original Haunting, while some parts were a bit dated, is great because it doesn't show you a damn thing. THAT'S what's really scary. The stuff you make up in your own head, not what they show you on screen. Today's writers and directors don't seem to get that.

The Innocents (which is sorta what The Others was based off of) with Deborah Kerr has some creepy moments too. The little girl in that movie went on to play in the original Legend of Hell House.

Too bad Warner Brothers and Fox can't get on the ball and release The Haunting and The Innocents in fully restored widescreen.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Red Dragon. Saw it this past weekend. Very, very good. Superb cast.

More suspense than horror, Kalifornia always freaked me out. Some of the best acting from Pitt, Duchovny, and Lewis, and a plot that sl-ow-ly thickens as your stomach sl-ow-ly turns inside out. I guess to me, sociopaths (no empathy or guilt) are more scary than psychopaths (enjoy killing). Don't know why; maybe more believable?
