Sceptre & DVI Issues

601 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  tropicalisland
I just got the Sceptre 30" from Costco, and am sorting through whether or not I want to use the DVI out from my Comcast Moto cable box. I bought a DVI cable, and while the picture does look better (less cropping and much better fleshtones), I have a strange issue when watching a HD channel broadcasting SD content. At the top of the screen there are digital artifacts (small squares...) that aren't being converted, and flicker all along the top edge of hte picture. There is also a faint pink line along the bottom of the pictuire. I have tried 2 different cables, so I know the issues is not the cable...has anyone else encountered this issue?

Also, I really liket the Sceptre overall for the price, but the other gripe I have is that the plastic sliver case seems to bow out slightly just above where the logo is on the front. There is a small gap where I can see down between the glass and the case....

Perhaps I should order another and return this one?

Although this Sceptre model can produce a really great picture, I and other forum members experienced several different problems with it. You should return your unit to Costco for exchange or refund... Costco is great concerning returns.

What do you recommend instead?

I think the Sharp LC32GA5U is really good (so is the 26" model) but they are more expensive by about $500 to $900. If you must stay in low budget range you could try the Syntax Olivea 30, but

purchase from a seller who offers a full refund should there be something wrong with it (Target, etc.).

Syntax has a pretty good warranty and they will come to your house for repairs.

Or if you can wait (months), I think Sceptre is coming out with new models plus maybe the Sharp units will continue to drop in price.
