Schedules Direct username/password in WiRNS

Where in the world do you enter your username and password in WiRNS for your Zap2it/Shedules Direct account?

If you are using WiRNS 2.0 with all the updates, then under Configuration->Guide Data you enter 0 for the Zip Code and the Schedules Direct info goes right there in front of you (not called Zap2It)...

Henry
Yeah, it's the second line:

schedulesdirect login and schedulesdirect password.

Interestingly though, I have my zip code in there and it works just fine.

Apparently not needed with S.D.?

You have a ZIP code configured AND an SD login configured? That would be bad because they don't play nicely together (as documented in the PlanetReplay thread on using WiRNS with SD)...

Henry
Interesting. I'll have to change that (and my directions).

I didn't read that full thread, but you mentioned in there about that bug should have been fixed a long time ago. I take it that it wasn't?

It's the very first post which ARE the instructions for using SD. Not very far to read...

Bug? What bug? You can't use them together, simple as that. There is no bug (it says caveat, not bug)...

I guess I misinterpreted this post........

"You shouldn't have to regedit the zipcode back to zero. I think that was fixed a long time ago..."

Oh, that was a totally different problem. That was a bug where once you set the ZIP code non-zero you couldn't set it back to zero through the user interface and you had to use regedit to set it back to zero. That bug was fixed a long time ago such that there is now no problem setting the ZIP back to zero through the user interface...

However, for better or worse, the design of WiRNS is that you can't mix using a ZIP code and Schedules Direct. And, that is pretty clearly documented in the post which is the instructions for using WiRNS with Schedules Direct...

Henry
RTFM. Doesn't mean it happens. =)

I've been using it that way since I decided to get SD in (probably) Feb.

No ill effects that I've noticed.

Sorry OP.

Edit--just changed it to 0. Gotta love remote management.

Well, you probably aren't really "using it" that way. That is, even though you have it configured for a ZIP code, you probably aren't using any of the ZIP code lineups, so they are all probably logging "(not in use)" and, therefor, not doing anything. That is, WiRNS is probably loading all the ZIP code lineups, but not loading any ZIP code guide data, so there's no conflict...

Henry
That makes sense.

I did (I assume I won't any more) have the local lineup available previously.

Nothing like paying $20/year to have Create.

As an aside (and I haven't tried doing this on my own), can I create an empty channel on input 2. Then I can easily change to a different input and do a manual record (VCR, camcorder, whatever).

You should have the same local lineup available from SD. They both get their guide data from the same place and should have the exact same lineups available. The SD guide data is in the more raw format whereas the ZIP code data is only what the RTV needs...

You really only need to be subscribing to SD if you live outside the US or are trying to get OTA subchannel information...

Unless, of course, you just happen to like the SD guide information better, because it has the original air date and some other features...

I'd love to have the original air date.

I need to learn more about WiRNS and how to use it.

almost option-box by option-box account.

The web page attempted that, but it was Pre-WiRNS 2, AFAIK.

I don't recall seeing original air date--I'll have to look closer.

I got create so I could get my PBS's sub channel. They call it Create.

It's all OTA.

That's the only advantage my cable company DVR guide has over the Replay shows the copyright date of every show.

If you're using SD, then you already have the original air date. It shows up when you look at WiRNS' Channel Guide, the original air date should be part of the individual show information...

In addition, you can use the original air date to make your own repeat episode information. The "Days for Repeat flag" configuration in Guide Data allows to you configure using the original air date to mark shows a repeat (and is documented here ). Although, this really isn't necessary any longer because the problem used to be that shows were marked as repeat instead of new and only the major networks bothered to mark shows as repeat. The new format is that shows are marked as new only on the first airing and otherwise are repeat episodes. So, the problem that you couldn't tell if a show was a repeat or not except to look at the original air date has pretty much gone away, so that option really shouldn't need to be used any longer...

I realize that the documentation is for pre-WiRNS 2, but it is still fairly relevant. Glenn updated the main installation documentation just recently, bringing it up to date for WiRNS 2...

I don't know what "Create" is, but all the subchannel information should be available through SchedulesDirect. If you look at the "Local Broadcast" lineup, it should have all the PBS subchannel lineups...

I did a full install, and that was pretty intuitive (didn't need the installation documentation).

I don't know how to do things like:

activate showguard

stop new phone numbers from being transferred.

stop replayzones from being transferred.

Turn off the virtual replay in WiRNS (I use DVA and it's fine).

Turn ON IVS for wirns.

I only barely now know what the repeat flag days box even is.

replaytv gets user time zone?

serve max show description vs. serve max avail. description??

net connect time vs. next call time

How do JIT recordings even work ( I have 3 replays for 6 stations, so I have things pretty well covered--so I probably don't even need it)

etc.

I'm sure the answers are out there somewhere. Life gets in the way and doesn't leave me the time I wish I had for it. I haven't found easy answers, is all. I'm really not even complaining. It's my fault, I know. I just know I'm not getting all that I can out of it.

Well, the documentation I just linked you ( http://www.wirns.com/wirns_docs/index.html ) answers most of your questions...

I don't know if using ShowGuard or setting up IR blaster codes is really part of WiRNS installation, but that information can be found in this forum. Using ShowGuard has just been recently posted, and instructions on adding IR blaster codes has also recently been posted...

Here is the file detailing the plugin's functions...

The rest of your questions are answered on PlanetReplay. Check out the WiRNS forum. That is the dedicated forum to WiRNS and is really where you should be looking for answers to those questions or making comments about lacking information...
