I am looking at two Da-Lite screens:

Da-Snap

16:9

106" Diagonal

Either HCMW or HCCV.

Both screen materials seem to offer similar features (gray base, 1.1 Gain, 45 degree viewing angle etc), with the exception that the HCCV mentions "high powered" DLP or LCD PJ's

I am running a Hitachi 5500 on whisper mode (1200 ANSI), and at 16:9 ratio. Of course I will be 'losing' some brightness running in 16:9, however it seems plenty bright on my current matte white screen. I could do with better blacks, and I only have moderate light control during the day.

I am also planning on calibrating the PJ in near future, so the brightness may drop to 900 ANSI Lumens?

I don't like the image on gray screens with 0.8 gain as the whites seem to be washed out, despite the better black level, and I want a screen material that gives the best results with least compromises - yeah, I'm dreaming!!

;)

Thanks for all and any advice.

I dont think you have a choice. I think that the HCMW is only good for untensioned screens like a manual or electric untensioned screens. The HCCV is for the electric tensioned and wall screens.

Summer Afternoon Ambient Light is what I called it

switching from the DaMat (white) -> HCCV (light gray) did the trick

ur right....it also lower's the black level improving perceived CR

HCCV is actually the same HC gray material with a lighter Gain Coating

I can watch Movies anytime now and it always looks Great

since my setup is similar to yours -- Infocus LP350 (1300 lumens)

screen is a PermWall which is the stretched vinyl

where as the HCMW is a backed material for the Pull Downs

but if I had Total Light Control I would just stay with the DaMat (white)

HTPC Win2k/sp2 WinDVD4 ati7500 -> DVI -> Infocus LP350 -> HCCV 80x45

Thanks for the response.

I ordered my screen on Saturday actually from a company called "screen technics".

They had a gray high contrast material however the gain was only 0.8 and made the whites a little washed out. They just released a new gray material with an optical coating to increase the gain to 1.15, which is perfect for my situation.

Should take delivery in about 10 days!
