Whenever there's a flash on the screen, as in an explosion, the screen goes black for a few seconds. This is very annoying and only happens with DVDs, not satellite. Clearly something is overloading, but I don't know where or if it's user adjustable. I use a Sony ES9000 player, component video out, switched by my Denon receiver to a Hitachi RPTV.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks,

Joel

Are your brightness and contrast setting set very high? At high settings dark scenes followed by abrupt bright flashes (ie a night scene with a big explosion) will cause picture expansion on sets with sub par power supply and power handling.

Try turning down those two controls and see if it still does it.
