Guys, I could use some help in selecting a screen as this seems to be a challenge itself.

I want to get a 92" effective viewing area screen. My projector is the X10 and i know it has a dynamic contrast feature which im unsure about which affects my screen selection.

My room has flat silver colored walls and lighting is well controlled but i want to have some ambient light )i have a dimmer circuit on my recessed lights. And i have dark brown curtains.

So im unsure what gain and what color screen i should look for. Also does glass bead degrade quality?

Thanks Cal

Glass bead screens are retroreflective. They do not work well with fixed offset projectors. The X10 requires a fixed, 136% offset. This places the projector either too high or too low for good results with a retroreflective screen, which needs the projector to be placed near viewer eye level.

You will need an angular reflective screen, which is the most common type of screen. A gray screen with modest gain (e.g., 1.3) will help a little with ambient light, but in truth no front projection screen will perform well in high ambient light--especially if the ambient light source is behind the viewers.

If you will tell us what kind of screen you want (manual, electric, or fixed frame) and what your screen budget is, we can be more specific.

Thanks for the replies.

Basically i was looking at a 92 to no more than 95" diagonally measured electric screen. I am sitting about 11.5ft from the screen so this seems to be about the optimal amount. I really dont want to spend no more than $300 or so...

I am sort of leaning to a gray screen but as my X10 has only 1200 lumens, im unsure if the slight gain loss of a gray screen will degrade brightness.

Thanks Cal

I wouldn't worry about lack of brightness. A screen diagonal of 92-95" is pretty small. Small = bright. Your budget is pretty low for an electric screen. You probably will have to find an off-brand Chinese-made screen. I can't help you with that, but they do exist. I use a fixed frame Da-Lite. Maybe someone else who has bought a budget electric will respond.

I'll add that unless you are talking Hi Power (special formula version of a glass bead) I would not recommend them anyways. They are extremely fragile.
