(I'm a newbie who has been lurking for a while. Most other screen size theads I found focus on projectors)
Here is my problem. I finally convinced the wifey to let me upgrade. My current set is a 53" Panasonic (PT-53WX53) and is about 5 years old. It has treated me well but it is definitely behind on the times.
We looked and looked and I have read tons from these forums and we tentatively decided to go with LCD which seem to top off around 52" (looking at Samsung 71/81 or XBR4). Going down the 1 inch in screen size shouldn't be a big deal but an LCD will be wall-mounted and will therefore be about 2 feet further back than the Panasonic RPTV screen. What kind of impact will this have (is there a "rule of thumb" on how screen sizes are impacted by distance)? Should I be looking at something greater than 52"? I know there are some 57" LCD's and a few others but I really don't want to sacrifice quality.
Currently view distance is 9.5 - 11.5 ft.
Mounted LCD will make it approximately 11.0-13.0 feet
Budget is 4k.
Will use for: Comcast HD, PS3 (for blu-ray), XBOX360, Wii
Thanks for any help.
