I have searched through this area with no luck, maybe I've missed something (very likely), but anyway here's my question.


I have a limited area in which to setup a FP. I will be making a 54" x 72" blackout fabric screen, with a wooden frame. I would like (actually my wife told me) to make the screen portable. It needs to be setup and torn down after the evenings show.


I am thinking a stand of some type to hang or mount the screen on would be ideal. Here is where I've come up short on ideas. What design? Is there something I could use that would be perfect for this situation? I'm sure this problem has a simple solution. Any input would be helpful.


I would have my wife sew a large "pillow case" type cover to place the screen in when not in use, and the stand(s) could be moved to the garage or basement until the next show. Cost is the main issue, but also I feel that a well made DIY screen, will out last a more $ expensive $ pull down screen.


Anyone have any ideas? Comments? Concerns? Questions?

Hi Todd,


Are you going to be using this screen with a CRT projector? If so, i would think a moveable screen would give you major headaches because of having to get the focus and stuff worked in every time. Unless you can guarantee the screen will be in the exact same position as it was.


Maybe this is an idea: i was looking for ways to mount my (permanently mounted) screen, and ended up getting industrial strenght velcro http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif I put two vertical strips on the wall, at the place where the side of the screen would go, and then stapled the other strips to the back of the wooden frame. Now it's easy to take the screen down or move it or whatever, yet it's a strong mount. It also makes sure that the distance is always the same.

Gertjan,

I am going to be using a DLP (LT150). I can't screw, nail or deface a wall (wife's orders). Moving the screen and projector won't be a major headache.

I considered this issue once... both as a pj mount and screen mount. Something like the following bicycle racks might work. (A bit of McGyvering for sure)


One version (maybe you can make something like it) might lean against the wall, and probably provide best stability:

An alternate version might telescope up to form a tight fit between ceiling and floor (maybe takes two to hold screen) such as:

I have seen much cheaper telescoping poles for lamps and bathroom/shower shelving.
