I have an Ultra 160 Quantum SCSI with an Adaptec 29160 adapter that I want to use for my new HTPC. I have heard rumors of SCSI Hard Drives being a problem with DVD and music playback. Is this true?

Currently I run a IDE UDMA 66 Hard Drive and it works fine.

I have never had or heard anything about problems with playback with SCSI.

I have a 19160 and Atlas 10K-II in my desk PC, but for HTPC SCSI would be a waste of money - you don't need the xtra permance that SCSI gives you

Another thing is - SCSI is still loud compared to IDE drives...

so, stick with your IDE drive.

I've never heard of a problem with DVD and MP3 playback on SCSI drives. I use both IDE and SCSI drives in my systems. The SCSI drives work best as the system drives whereas the IDE drives work best as slower/lower cost storage ie MP3 archive. Nowadays with IDE drives far out reaching SCSI drives in cost and capacity I find that IDE is the ideal choice for most needs.
