I got my set calibrated with Video Essentials and the high definition picture is fantastic. So I had some friends over and was showing it off. We were watching Discovery and I wanted to show the difference between HD and SD. So I set the input to TiVo and then switched over to the HD input. One of my friends said he couldn't tell much of a difference. I was stunned and I switched back and forth a few times and pointed out the better resolution and picture etc and he did see it. But I started thinking about it and looking closely, and while there is a difference, it is not that "I can't ever watch regular TV again" difference. And then I started wondering if I was doing the wrong comparison. Should I have been switching between SD Discovery and HD Discovery? I wanted to try that last night but they didn't have the same shows on at the same time. I'll try to do that some other time, but this has all got me wondering.

When watching an HD channel through a non-HD input like TiVo, do you get more lines of resolution than on an SD set?
