I have a reference series Sony DVP7000S DVD player which I am planning on selling. I bought a Panasonic RP91 which I was planning on SDI modding.

Before I sell the Sony, can anyone give me input on the better PQ if I run the Sony (which still has an absolutely amazing image) through a processor ie, the Leeza or new Iscan HD and upconvert the 480i image to 1080i? Or, the Panny SDI mod via the same route?

I have a 50" HD plasma that I will be running this into which does have DVI/HDCP input.

As an aside, I compared the image quality of the progressive comp. output of the Panasonic to the interlaced component output of the Sony. The Sony is much more true to the source. The colors, brightness, contrast etc, are much more lifelike. The Panasonic's progressive image is more smooth and a bit more sharp, but you just can't beat that original Sony series DVP7000S! Bought it in 1997 and it still runs like a champ!
